Blencathra by Martin Evans.
A risograph print collaboration with National Park Print Shop.
Martin lives and works in Carlisle, Cumbria. A self-taught painter and mural artist, it is the pure joy of painting and expression that drives his process. Cumbria has some spectacular landscapes, and he is constantly inspired by this subject matter.
"The main theme running through my landscapes is the exploration of paint and colour to capture the atmosphere of a place and time. I like my work to have immediacy and energy; spray paint drips and brush marks are often incorporated. The tools I use such as large brushes, spray paints and rollers allow for an expressive style.”
Risograph printing is a stencil and ink process, similar to screenprinting. It uses paper stencils, rolling drums and vibrant inks. In these prints, just four ink colours have been used - black, pink, aqua and yellow. These colourful and textured layers are built up and overlaid to capture the bright and vivid nature of Martin’s paintings.
