Renter friendly ways to decorate.
Just because you rent your place, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t feel like your own!
Renting often means restrictions on what can be done to personalise a space, so we have put together a few suggestions of ways that you can express yourself without creating lasting damage.
1. Bookshelf display
Do you have a collection of favourite books and zines? Group them by colour to make a statement and add trinkets or prints to express yourself.
2. Make a feature shelf
Use a shelf to showcase your favourite art, photos and plants. We like to switch up our art seasonally, and using a shelf means you don’t have to worry about spacing of hooks, frames or nails.
3. Choose art that feels like you!
If you’re not able to redecorate a place, one of the best ways to jazz up a space is by choosing art that feels representative of you, or the things that you love. Perhaps you love skiing, or hiking, or are a silly sausage. There are so many artists and beautiful prints to choose from.
4. Collages
In lieu of framing, a classic wall collage using mini prints, photos and statement-piece prints can be a great way to add a personal touch. This might be done with something as simple as blu-tack or a memo board. Pegs, pins or stickers can be used to stick your collage together!

5. Hang pictures with removable adhesive strips
Use removable strips to stick up frames and prints without damaging your walls. You can find different types of strips with a quick search or visit to your local hardware store.
6. Soft furnishings
Adding some colour using cushions, rugs, throw blankets, pennants or curtains is a usually permissible way to inject some colour into your space – especially if your rented place is furnished, with less room for choice. Colour choices are a great way to express yourself or appreciate new trends, too.
7. Removable adhesive hooks
Removable adhesive hooks are another hammer-free way of hanging wall art in your home. These can also be obtained from most local hardware stores.
Before you make any changes to your space, remember to ask permission from your landlord to make sure that you aren’t breaking the terms of your lease.
